Tbe Senate of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, has extended its mid-semester break by two weeks.
The directive is contained in a circular signed and issued by the institution’s Registra, Mr Ganiyu Saliu, on Friday in Okitipupa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the institution”s senate on June 25 directed its students to proceed on two-weeks mid-term break from June 28 to July 11, over insecurity of lives and properties of students on their off-campus accommodations.
The institution’s senate, however extended the mid-term semester break with another two weeks commencing from July 12 to July 26 to avail the management the opportunity to prepare adequate security for its students..
“The Vice Chancellor on behalf of the Senate have approved the extension of the current mid-term break with another two-weeks commencing from July 12 to July 26.
“This dispensation is to enable the management to conclude work and arrangement embarked upon with host community to provide adequate security measure in the metropolis.
“Management have also set up a committee for the purpose of collating data of students hostels in Okitipupa with a view of establishing a data bank of hostels for the purpose of working out security measures for the hostels,” the circular read.
Meanwhile, the management frowned at students who had refused to pay up their tuition fees.
It said that students who had not paid tuition for 2019/2020 session would not be allowed to write second semester examination or disrupt the academic calendar.
The management, however, promised enabling environment for teaching and research, thereby solicited the cooperation of staff, students and other stakeholders in that regard. (NAN)
