By Aderemi BamgboseMrs Mercy Akinrinwa, Wife of the Chairman, Okitipupa Local Government Council, Ondo State, on Monday, urged women in the council to participate positively in politics.
Akinrinwa, while speaking on the International Women’s Day programme, organised by the council, said that the need for women’s participation in politics could not be over-emphasised.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme for this year’s programme is: “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19 World.”
According to her, women have all it takes to change the narratives if they get involved in politics and if given the chance to hold political offices.
She noted that women had been patient enough and made vital changes in their homes, adding that this had affected the successful output of men in all their endeavours.
“If women participate actively in politics, they will make great change and change the narratives. I, therefore, urge our women to get involved,” Akinrinwa said.
Also speaking, the Regent of Ayeka kingdom, Princess Oluyemi Bajowa, appealed to Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to give women more political positions in his government.
She said that women were dedicated, committed and capable of making great changes, if given the opportunity to serve.
Although Bajowa lauded Akeredolu for recognising and uplifting women to higher positions in his government, she, however, urged him to do more.
“Women are behind the successes recorded by all men, because behind every successful man, there is a woman.
“We appeal to our governor to give our women more posts in his administration. He has done well by recognising and uplifting women but we want more,” Bajowa said.
