The Chairman, Okitipupa Local Government Council, Ondo State, Mr Igbekele Akinrinwa, has commended the state chapter of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for its contributions to the renovation of the burnt council secretariat.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some suspected hoodlums, who hijacked the nationwide #EndSARS protests in October 2020, had set the secretariat and other property in Okitipupa ablaze.
Akinrinwa gave the commendation during the election and inauguration of new NULGE executives at the council secretariat in Okitipupa on Thursday.
He also urged the union to continue to stand in unity so as to cross more hurdles and record greater achievements.
“I advise the new executives to work assiduously with the outgoing chairman for them to record unparalleled achievements and take the council to greater heights,” Akinrinwa said.
The President of the state chapter of NULGE, Mr Bola Taiwo, said that the hoodlums, who razed the council secretariat, had caused serious havoc to the council.
He said that union had to levy its members to begin the renovation of the council secretariat, assuring that the repairs would be completed by March.
“Although the hoodlums caused a lot of havoc at this council, we will not rest on our oars but we will do our best to ensure that the renovation is completed by March.
“I commend the outgoing executives for their doggedness and cooperation which have made them to reach this level.
“I want to urge the incoming executives to work together for them to achieve greater success,” Taiwo said.
In his remarks, the immediate past NULGE Chairman, Temiyemi Akinmolayan, said that he had done his best in positioning the union better than he met it.
He listed renovation and painting of NULGE secretariat, refurbishment of the union bus and financial assistance to members, among others, as some of his achievements.
The new Chairman of the union, Mr Omoniyi Adesokan, promised to remain focused, dedicated and ensure that members’ welfare was given utmost priority.
“We will organise a fund raising for renovation of other parts of the secretariat because this is our base. We will also be focused, dedicated and give members’ welfare utmost priority,” Adesokan said.
NAN reports that new executives include: Toye Olowogboye (Vice Chairman); Kehinde Omotigba (Secretary); Oluwatoyin Betiku (Treasurer); Esther Ayebo (Assistant Secretary) and Oluwaseun Ogungboye (Auditor).
Others are: Oluwagbenga Ogunmakinwa (Public Relations Officer); Yemisi Akinbolure (Welfare Officer); Adeyoola Ogungboye (Women Coordinator); Joshua Idebi (Organising Secretary) and Oloyede Ikuomola (Young Worker). (NAN)
