The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council has congratulated Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, on his re election at the just concluded governorship poll.
In a congratulatory letter jointly signed by Adetona Aderoboye and Leke Adegbite, the union’s Chairman and Secretary respectively said it was not a surprise that the governor got his second term with overwhelming votes from the people of the state.
The union appealed Akeredolu to compassionately look into payment of outstanding retirement benefits of its members who retired from the Owena Press (The Hope Newspaper) as some of them are dying gradually due to lack of funds to take of their failing health.
While pleading with him to sustain his modest achievements, Ondo NUJ reminded the governor of his promises to the union which included appointment of deserving members as Permanent Secretaries in the state and the pledge of giving the NUJ Press centre a facelift.
“We write to congratulate you sir, on your undisputed victory in the just conclude governoship poll
“This is a clear testimony of love and confidence the people of Ondo State have in your leadership abilities and qualities.
“Your popularity and eventually landslide victory over your opponents are not new to journalists in the state considering your unprecedented giant strides in infrastructural development and positive impacts in the education, industrial and health sectors in the last three and half years.
“Your reelection has justified your investiture as Ondo NUJ Grand Patron and conferment of Distinguished Award of the Best Governor on you by our Union in November 2019 at a ceremony you personally attended at our Press Centre, Alagbaka-Akure.
“The award succinctly sent message to the general public that your giant strides are real and can’t be undermined by your political adversaries. We are happy to felicitate you on your undisputed and incontestable victory in the gubernatorial poll.
“Ondo NUJ is not also surprised with your electoral triumph judging from regular payment of workers’ salaries, the restructuring your administration is carrying out at OSRC/Orange FM/Alalaye FM and above all the approval of weigh-in allowance to our members in the state public service.
“We also appeal that you compassionately look into outstanding retirement benefits of our members who retired from the Owena Press (The Hope Newspaper) as some of them are dying gradually due to lack of funds to take of their failing health.
“We have no doubt that the people of the Sunshine state shall benefit more dividends of democracy from your second term in office considering your track records of being a straightforward and sincere leader.
“While pleading with you sir to sustain your modest achievements, we use this opportunity to remind you of your promises to our union, which include appointment of our deserving members as Permanent Secretaries and your administration’s pledge of giving our NUJ Press centre a facelift.
“As ‘Mr Talk & Do Governor’, the entire journalists in the state shall continue to appreciate if you fulfill the promises you made when you personally received NUJ award in November 2019.
“Mr Governor, It is expedient to thank you most profoundly for the confidence reposed in our members working in your Media Team as headed by Hon Donald Ojogo (State Commissioner for Information and Orientation).
“We are proud of them and appeal to you Sir that we still look forward to work with them in your second term in office as they have justified and delivered on their assignments so far, the statement read.
