Some youths under the agies of Coalition.of Ondo Youths (COY) on Wednesday in Okitipupa, Okitipupa Local Government Area (LGA) joined their other colleagues in the country to protest against Police brutality, #EndSARS#.
Newspread247 reports that the youths in large numbers march peacefully from Irele junction along Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road, through to Okitipupa main market to LGA Secretariat and stopped at Okeraye roundabout where the youths were addressed.
The youths carry placards with various inscriptions;, Youths are leaders of tomorrow, stop killing us, ‘Stop the molestation of youths”, We are youths and not fraudsters, ‘SARS has killed more youths than armed robbers and others.
The protest also slow down commercial and economic activities in the Okitipupa metropolis as mild gridlock was caused by the peaceful protest.
While addressing the youths, Mr Fadesola Ojamomi, Convener of COY said that the protest was to join other youths in the country to end unlawful brutality, molestation, harassment and killings of youths by SARS operatives.
According to him, We march out peacefully today in solidarity of our brothers and sisters that have been brutally abused and killed by SARS operstives.
“We are using this opportunity to send signals to the SARS and Police Operatives to stop the harrasment, brutality and killing of Nigerian youths.
“This protest, however, is not to defend cyber-crimals or other criminals, our stand is that anyone suspected of any crime must be thoroughly investigated and taken to court of law and until proven guilty by the court of law.
“The era of stop and search and harassment of youths who go along their lawful business must stop,” he said.
He added that although the SARS has been disbanded saying that any other that would take over must be reformed mentally, psychologically and improve on their welfare.
He added that the low life because of poor remuneration and welfare package was mostly responsible for the Policemen to abadon their civic duties to other unlawful duties.
Newspread247 reports that the men of the Okitipupa Divisional Police Office were on ground to forestall the breakdown of law and order during the protest.
