Ahead of the Oct.10 governorship election in Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, former governor of the state has described Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s government as the government of the elites that lacks masses oriented programmes
Mimiko, a chieftain of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) made this remarks during the campaign of the party on Saturday night when the ZLP campaign train berth in Okitipupa.
The former governor said that the many youths can not longer complete their education as well as enjoyimg qualitative education because of high tuition fees slammed on tnem by the current All Progressives Congress (APC)
He also said that the current administration has made it impossible for residents of the state to enjoy free healthcare because of exorbitant bills levied on them at the government hospitals.
“How can a government meet tuition fees at N25,000 and increase it to over N200,000 and this have sent many students out of schools to become either bread sellers and Okada riders.
“Our people and wives can no longer enjoy free healthcare services and free delivery at the government hospital because this government have increased hospital bills irrationally.
“Any government that does not prioritise education and healthcare of citizens is a bad government and such government must be voted out” Mimiko said.
Meanwhile, Mr Agboola Ajayi, the state’s deputy governor and standard bearer of ZLP promised to make education, healthcare and restoration of electricity back to the Southern district, his greatest prioeity if elected as governor.
He also assured the residents and women of the state of better days ahead as the resources of the state would be used judiciously as dividends of democracy would be enjoyed fully.
“Both Primary and secondary schools will be given free education while tertiary institutions tuition will be reduced to N50,000 from its current N200,000 and above.
“Health of residents will also be given priority as residents will enjoy free healthcare system and women will also have access to short loans for their businesses.
“In my 100 days in office as governor, electricity will be restored back to Ondo South that has been in the darkness for over 10 years,” Ajayi said.
He, however, urged residents to troop out emasse on Oct. 10 and cast their votes for ZLP and stand by their votes assuring them that no one could intimidate them with violence.
Earlier, Mr Banji Okunomo, a former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant who has defected to the ZLP declared the PDP dead in the state.
He noted that he joined the ZLP because it was the only party that can fulfil the Southern Agenda and bring back good life to residents of the state.
“I enjoin the you all to vote for the ZLP in the coming election because it’s the only party that will bring good fortunes to Ondo South and the whole state at large” Okunomo said.
The ZLP campaign train was welcomed by a mammoth crowd in spite of the campaign which started around 07:30 p.m and runs into the night.
