Mr Agboola Ajayi, the embattled Ondo State Deputy Governor, may resign his appointment over the impeachment notice served him by 14 out of 26 members of the State of Assembly
Ajayi trouble started when he dumbed his party, All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the Oct.10 governorship election which he has already been given a clean bill by the Rt.Hon. Yakubu Dogara led Screening Committee.
A former Commissioner in the state who pleaded anonymity said from the drama that played out at the House of Assembly where 14 members had already signed the impeachment notice, resignation would be the best option.
“We knew they were planning impeachment all along but it was seen as a mere paper work that will not come to reality because the deputy governor gave us confidence.
“He kept on assuring us that all is well and that majority members of the Assembly were his loyalists; but what we have seen baffles all of us, It means that there is a price on every politician.
“I can tell you that the deputy governor was in firm control of the assembly until we suddenly saw the notice that was signed by 14 members, but our greatest surprise is how the speaker allowed such an item on the Order Paper.
“From the look of things, some lawyers may have mixed up some aspects of the constitution by referring to two third for removal and one third for serving notice.
“It is now clear and the best option is to see if we can advise our prinicpal to resign and face his governorship campaign for the PDP primary election,” the former Commissioner said.
The former Commissioner, however, said that according to a source in the national leadership of the APC, the six APC lawmakers among the nine pro-Ajayi Assembly could be expelled from the party.
Meanwhile, as the political drama played out yesterday, the opposition Peoples Democratic PDP was yet to make its position known on the fate of Ajayi who joined the party two weeks ago.
Mr Ayo Fadakahe, the Zonal Publicity Secretary (South-West) of PDP, had recently advised the deputy governor to resign his position since he could no longer work with his boss having defected from the APC.
