Okitipupa (Ondo State) June 16, 2020 (NAN) Dr Akintunde Ogunfeyimi, the Chief Medical Director, Ondo State Specialists Hospital, Okitipupa, on Tuesday said that government needed to do more enlightenment and enforcement to curtail the increasing COVID-19 cases across the country.
According to him, many people still do not believe that COVID-19 is real and as a result they are not taking government preventive measures serious,especially, the use of face masks.
Ogunfeyimi said this while confirming to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that 11 people had tested positive to COVID-19 pandemic in Okitipupa LGA of Ondo State.
NAN reports that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday released 73 COVID-19 cases for Ondo State, and 11 out of them were discovered in Okitipupa Local Government Area (LGA).
“Many people still do not believe that COVID-19 is real especially our residents here, they will be telling you that there is nothing like Coronavirus pandemic, but high fever.
“Most residents do not comply with all the precautionary measures and directives such as : regular washing of hands, use of alcholo based sanitisers, maintain social distancing and use of face masks put in place by the government.
“I think the three tiers of government need to embark on serious enlightenment programme for their residents to convince them that COVID-19 is real .
” They should also enforce among the public the use of face masks order, else more cases of Coronavirus will still be recorded,” he said.
NAN also reports that the Ondo State Government had sealed a private hospital in Okitipupa area where nine COVID-19 cases were discovered. (NAN)
